February/March, 1997: The WWF announces the introduction of a new title, the European champion. A tournament is held.

March 3, 1997: "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith beats Owen Hart in the tourney final (Raw); Berlin, Germany.

September 20, 1997: "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels defeats the Bulldog as part of the "One Night Only" PPV in the United Kingdom.

December 22, 1997: Hunter Hearst Helmsley over Shawn Michaels, Monday Night Raw (taped December 10).

January 26, 1998: Owen Hart beats Goldust (subbing for Helmsley), Monday Night Raw (taped January 20).

March 16, 1998: Hunter Hearst Helmsley defeats an injured Owen Hart on Raw (taped March 10).

July 20, 1998: D-Lo Brown over Triple H on Raw (taped July 14), Binghamton, NY.

September 21, 1998: X-Pac pins Brown on Raw (taped September 15).

October 5, 1998: D-Lo Brown defeats X-Pac on Raw (taped September 29), East Langing, Michigan.

October 18, 1998: X-Pac beats Brown, In Your House: Judgment Day, Chicago, Illinois.

February 15, 1999: Shane McMahon pins X-Pac in a tag team match (teaming with Kane against X-Pac and HHH) with the stipulation that if X-Pac is beaten in the match, the man who pins him will be deemed the new champion, Raw is War, Burlingham, Alabama.

April 4, 1999: Shane McMahon publically forfeits the European title on Sunday Night Heat following his victory over X-Pac at Wrestlemania XV. The title is declared vacant and is abandoned.
